I wish we had known more about HIIT, EMOM and Tabata workouts when I was playing rugby 30 years ago. Long cross country runs do not make good props. We did things like tackle drills and handling drills which were kinda in the right area but we didn't train specifically to recover quickly which is vital on the pitch.
