A throwback to my childhood with #Orderofthestick and the old #Giantintheplayground forums. I went to my local gameshop today to track down the full metal fantasy core rulebook. Impressively they may actually be able to get me one, but looked at the listing and said “oh, wow, this thing is a collectible. I’m going to be honest, if I do succeed in ordering this in I’m then gonna have to decide whether to sell it to you or keep it for myself.”

Fair play, I guess.

At the office preparing to teach narratology for the new master students tomorrow. So of course I am playing Knight Forlorn, the new GMless and solo RPG from Bläckfisk.

My poor knight suffered horribly and died pretty quickly. Shit happens I guess. An interesting journaling experience, for sure. I might write up the notes as a story for my Patreon later.

🦈So I don't think I posted on Fedi that I'm working on a #tarot guide for #solorpg players.

Anyway, I'm getting the itch to try it out with a number of
#trpgs, one of which is #cyberpunkred and thought I might post excerpts from the game logs here.

I have gotten quite a lot of use out of shorter #TRPGs to be honest...

The bigger games I have used have been later editions that often felt either bloated with useless text (CoC) or bloated with pointless graphic design (into the odd)

Just this week I ditched a comparatively large game (OSE) mid-campaign and switched over to a game that's about 20 pages long (The Knights of the Road)

I understand the economics of big games and I understand wanting big books but I do not need them.

Vlog: The Golden Age of TRPGs Isn't Over - Breaking it all Down

I give my thoughts on an opinion piece by Ben Riggs (author of “Slaying the Dragon: A Secret History of Dungeons & Dragons”) about how the Golden Age of RPGs has ended by moving away from a D&D 5e focused monoculture – and argue that he’s not just a little wrong – he’s a lot […]

Supers RPG Experimentation: B-Ko. - Breaking it all Down

Waaayyy back in August 0f 2023 I did a post experimenting on creating characters for Sentinels of the Multiverse and Marvel Multiverse RPG based on A-Ko from Project A-Ko. I intended to follow up not long later with a write-up of B-Ko, but I never got around to it. Well, it’s time to follow up. […]

http://gamehistory.org/87percent/

The @gamehistoryorg has determined through research that 87% of the history of video games is basically not available (especially not legally) it makes me wonder how much of tabletop role-playing history is the same way? How much of anime history (and not just the original version, but dubs as well)?

Kobold Press’ new RPG is DnD 5e “with teeth”

Kobold Press says Tales of the Valiant, a D&D like TTRPG launching on Kickstarter, is an epic but challenging version of 5e that comes “with teeth”.
