An interesting read about ecopassages. Notably that amphibians and reptiles are among the most vulnerable wildlife to road mortality. At #TRCA, our research shows that nearly 90% of wildlife roadkill in the Greater Toronto Area involves these groups and an estimated 1.2 million individuals perish each spring and summer due to vehicular collisions.

Just back from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority's open house for the draft Etobicoke Creek Watershed Plan, wherein I learned a new word (lacustrine = of or relating to lakes), enjoyed a list of local fish (though not all native - looking at you, Round Goby), and dove into said watershed plan. Stop the Xmas MZO in Carruthers Creek Headwaters

On December 23rd, without the approval of the current municipal council, Mayor Kevin Ashe of Pickering requested an MZO from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to allow extensive commercial and residential development in the headwaters of Carruthers Creek. The headwaters of Carruthers Creek are vital for Durham Region for a number of reasons including serving as valuable farmland, preventing flooding (especially in Ajax) and as habit for plants and animals. Please sign this letter asking Mayor Ashe to rescind his unilateral Christmas MZO request and pursue a more democratic discussion of development in Durham Region. Your letter will be sent to Mayor Ashe and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark. You can read Mayor Ashe's letter in full here.

I served on the #TRCA conservation authority during this debaukle. This is such a sad end to the story. #wetlands are #naturalinfrastructure
