There is a small train which runs from Verden to Rotenburg (Wumme). The journey takes eighteen minutes, and there are no stops in between.

Quite aside from the amazing boredom this journey must cause for anyone assigned to drive it all day, I often wonder how they feel when their train is late.

I said to myself, if the train is on time I will wait for it. If the arrivals sign shows it is late, I'll get coffee and a roll. The train was on time, I sat and waited.

Two minutes before the train arrives, an announcement that it is delayed by five minutes. My stomach complains at this injustice.

The train is now even later as late passengers arrive and try to embark through broken doors, then run in all directions....
