Just had a computer seemingly give up the ghost in a way I've never seen before. I was using the laptop for some testing this morning, and had to leave for an appointment. I noticed it was getting hot so unplugged it and closed the lid before I left. When I came back it was cold, but seemingly it didn't actually go into sleep, and instead died. I plugged it in and let it run for a bit, but the fans just spun up really high and the screen was completely dark, so I force killed it with the power, which resulted in me hearing a concerningly loud popping noise right after the fans turned off. I then booted it again, saw the screen light up, waited a minute or two and heard the windows 11 startup sound, but now nothing. Thankfully it's cold and the case isn't bulging, so I don't think I have a spicy pillow on my hands, just some sort of fried capacitor or something. Definitely a #thursday.
