Our industry has always been obsessed with adding the "darling of the day" technology to every custom-made software—despite the fact that such an "add-on" may well be gratuitous, or perhaps even grotesque.

Back in the early 1980s, the email client was that darling of the day. In the 2000s, it was the embedded web browser. And today, it is AI. It matters not what this add-on does, or even if it works at all, so long as the application is emblazoned with the "AI" label.
