I agree, gas has been really underwhelming for a long time now, mostly because it's just way too easy to counter it. Pretty much every team you run into will have at least one source of fire, which just instantly negates the gas cloud basically for free. Meanwhile, fire will go basically unchallenged because nobody runs smokes.
