The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary - Reaction Compilation

Electric

The Cult's 3rd album is released on April 6, 1987 and it's ... well ... electric. Produced by Rick Rubin, it marked a drastic shift the the group's psychedelic stuff to a raw, stripped down hard rock sound ... clearly influenced by Rubin's want for power riffs and some sustained energy. It worked. It peaked at #4 on the UK album charts and is often cited as a seminal work in the hard rock genre. #thecult #electric #hardrock #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky

In the UK, as a GenX Goth, I can't express how sad I am at seeing Gambling Farm William Hill using #TheCult 'She Sells Sanctuary' as their advert backdrop to their AccaBoost gambling exploitation product as an advert pushed constantly by YouTube.

This is my life and identity and the gods of my life are used like cheap charlatans to sell a fucking gambling product.

I guess, perhaps Ian Astbury was feeling the pinch and needed a few quid in royalty fees?

Historically, it's cut me so hard and deep. A betrayal of my youth and inspiration!

When capitalism uses then songs of your youth and defiance as advert jingles towards abusing gambling addiction it kind of kills your already eviscerated hopes and dreams from years back...

Fuck capitalism, and gambling! Which seems to be a capitalist ploy to give the poor's hope in their desperation and make more money from it!

Consumerist exploitation of our past. Everything is up for grabs.
