@GhostOnTheHalfShell

10k words, wrong thesis.

He's banging on about GPUs in boxes. The actual scandal is GPUs as financial instruments. CoreWeave has $30B in debt collateralised against physical chips in SPVs (Special Purpose Vehicle), depreciated over 6 years based on projected inference revenue that doesn't exist. NVIDIA sells the GPUs, then rents some back, and that rental income services the debt used to buy them.

Nobody knows what an H100 is worth in 2028. Billions of dollars of structured finance assumes the answer is "enough."

Not asbestos in the walls, Ed. CDOs. Read a balance sheet instead of Pluralistic for once.

Zitron found the right neighbourhood and broke into the wrong house.

Cognitive Debt

The growing gap between the code your team ships and the code your team understands. It's not technical debt. It's worse.

Andrew Cairns
In 1–3 years, I expect a technical debt crisis fueled by AI-generated code slop... We will be drowning in unmaintainable, poorly understood systems. #AI #TechDebt #SoftwareEngineering

Legacy code slows everything down.

It increases risk, drags out releases, and makes even small changes harder than they should be.

AI is starting to change that.

I put together a post on how teams can use AI to modernize codebases more strategically by surfacing technical debt, improving test coverage, supporting refactoring, and reducing modernization risk.

In 2023, we said AI would replace developers.
In 2026, it’s clear: AI replaced our illusions instead.

AI didn’t delete engineering work — it moved it: review, debugging edge cases, fixing hallucinations, managing risk.

“Vibe coding” demos well. In production it can become a slop layer + technical debt.

AI doesn’t remove engineers. It raises the premium on architecture + accountability.

AI Modernization vs AI Technical Debt
At Infosys AI Day, Nandan Nilekani highlighted:
• 60–80% IT spend locked in legacy maintenance
• AI-driven modernization now economically viable
• Risk of AI-generated legacy systems within 5 years

Governance themes:
• Usage guidelines
• Quality gates
• Explainability standards
• AI disclosure policies
Parallel example: Australia’s Fair Work Commission overwhelmed by AI-assisted filings — institutional impact already visible.

Question to the community:
Are you implementing internal AI audit trails or output validation pipelines?
