I'm still catching up on #SFF panels from #TBRCon2023 and just listened to the incredibly interesting, smart and eloquent discussion about #hopepunk and #solarpunk with authors Ruthanna Emrys, Sarena Ulibarri, Matthew Kressel and Cat Rambo and host Jonathan Nevair. Some topics covered were the role of #technology vs that of society/ politics, feal-good fiction vs inspiring, engaging stories, community, diversity... Highly recommended!

I've started watching the #TBRCon2023 panel on #wuxia and #xianxia and already learned something: These genres are about heroes, often vigilantes, who operate outside of established laws and follow their intrinsic sense of justice and morality. I had no idea that a principle I identify with a lot, and a major reason I love Wei Wuxian and #TheUntamed so much, is foundational for the genre!

Yesterday's #TBRCon2023 panel handed me a new term to describe the kind of storytelling I've come to enjoy a lot over the past few years, a sort of domestic, relatively low-stakes, often meditative or soothing type of narration that focuses on characters and their relationships and interior lives: "slice-of-life" :) It's a trend possibly because of the pandemic, but many older favorites also did this before we had terms like this or like #hopepunk.
