Sziget Dates for 2026 Confirmed & Return of the Founder

The Sziget Festival opens a new chapter and returns to its roots under the direction of its founder Károly Gerendai. In addition to this significant change, the festival announces that it will take place from 11 to 15. August 2026 will take place on Óbuda Island in Budapest. After welcoming its 11 millionth festival in 2025, the Sziget Festival has opened a new chapter: building on over three decades of festival history, founder Károly Gerendai returns to the forefront to shape the next phase of the Island of Freedom’s development.

Since its creation, Sziget has been one of the leading festivals in Europe. Characterised by creativity, authenticity and the community spirit of its international visitors. With a renewed sense of freedom and a clear, long-term vision, the festival now looks to the future.

After intensive discussions, Sziget and Superstruct have agreed on a new direction. In the future, the festival will be continued under the direction of its founder and the long-standing team. At the same time, a multi-year agreement was reached with the city of Budapest, which ensures the permanent existence and support of the festival.

Building on the successful 2025 edition, which was accompanied by significant investments in the Island of Freedom and significant growth compared to previous years, Sziget is preparing for the 2026 edition with new energy and focus, said CEO Tamás Kádár:

“For 2026, we have the same goal as always: to develop Sziget as one of Europe’s leading festivals; with a strong line-up and the international appeal that has made the festival unique for decades. Superstruct’s time of operational involvement in the festival has allowed us to meet the challenges of the pandemic and invest in the quality of the festival experience for visitors from all over Europe. Founder Károly Gerendai adds:
