The first ad from 1935 that used Du Pont's famous slogan "Better Things for Better Living ... Through Chemistry". Introduced as part of a campaign to dissociate the brand from WWI chemical weapons production, by showing chemistry as a force for good. And of course the phrase was later hacked to refer to LSD.

A super interesting book looking at authors such as Kant and Goethe as precursors of thinking about the inorganic, which is a great and refreshingly oblique angle on the kind of things I was reading two years ago ("Kant's Organicism" by Jennifer Mensch for instance), and completely in line with the current (and still failing) crystal experiments.
(Many thanks @ueb_team161 for that great pointer !)

From 2008 but just in: a cultural history of salt by Jakob Vogel. Any pointers to other cultural histories of substances are very welcome.

Today I encountered this 1958 edition of Korzybski's 1933 proto-cybernetic magniloquent magnum opus: I've come across references to his work often enough to not hesitate too long, even though I don't think we'll become good friends.

So this book is finally out: a great study of the life of a scientific film about fluid dynamics that was made almost exactly a century ago by Ludwig Prandtl in Göttingen.

Yesterday was the opening of the first ever Research Days organized at KASK&Conservatorium in Ghent, loosely structured around the topic of play. The image is bad picture of Luanda Casella's great presentation during the first panel. Today I will be trying out a lecture performance at 17h, tomorrow I will be in a panel discussion with Kate Fletcher and Lambros Malafouris, moderated by Anca Uşurelu.
