This particular Murray analysis seems very #Manichean (until the final paragraphs):

"ISIS back on the hills above the Bekaa valley within a week, given the speed of their advance"

The current evidence is that the #SyrianSalvationGovernment is misogynist, authoritarian, + Islamist, but open to public pressure and participation, and maybe even ... women voting [1]. It's not liberal democratic, but neither is it ISIS or the Taliban.
