Washington has long worked with Kurdish groups in the Middle East. But without sufficient support, encouraging Iranian Kurds into an uprising now could be dangerous.

Natasha Walter on Rojava:

"This autonomous region is being throttled, as the Syrian government, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, is trying to bring the whole country under its control. The Kurds in north-east Syria are right to fear what that control would look like: massacres of other minorities, including Alawites and Druze, have taken place recently elsewhere in the country. Al-Sharaa, with his background in al-Qaida and desire for a centralised national government, represents the polar opposite of the secular, decentralised ideals of the autonomous administration."

Embarking in a war with #Russia based on US support was crazy. Ukraine should have waited patiently under #Yanukovic for Russia to be weaker. Half a million people would still be alive now. Now the US are out and 25% of territory will go.

“It is time for a major course correction in US policy in the #EasternMediterranean” said the analyst, arguing that for a new peaceful order, #Washington should recognise the #SyrianKurds as its best ally in the region & stop succumbing to #Ankara’s blackmail over the PKK.

“Rip the Band-Aid off. #DelistPKK. Reward allies. Be a peacemaker. Tell #Turkey the age of ethnic incitement is over,” Robin concluded." #turkeyoutofnato #erdoganputinpuppet
