Tras el derrocamiento del régimen de Assad, son varias las potencias extranjeras que pretenden definir la configuración del escenario político en Siria y, en este contexto, la población kurda del país está en el centro de atención. El presidente turco, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, continúa amenazando a la milicia kurda siria YPG, a la cual considera como una extensión de las milicias del Partido de los Trabajadores de Kurdistán (PKK), que vienen luchando y rebelándose contra el Estado turco desde hace 40 años. Recientemente, el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Turquía viajó a Damasco para reunirse con el nuevo gobernante de facto de Siria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, jefe del grupo islamista HTS. “Turquía es una gran amenaza para el pueblo kurdo y para las experiencias democráticas que el movimiento kurdo viene implementando en la región desde 2014”, explica Ozlem Goner, miembro de la mesa directiva del Comité de Emergencia para Rojava, quien da cuenta de la persecución que está sufriendo la población kurda, así como la persecución contra periodistas, y explica qué países poderosos buscan controlar la región. “Turquía, Israel y Estados Unidos están tratando conjuntamente de apoderarse de esta tierra y el pueblo kurdo está bajo amenaza”.
