I spent Saturday in Magdeburg. There was so, so much to see, I could have done with another day to explore it all. There is much history to learn about but also plenty of art to look at. On top of that there are many renovation projects going on, the city is changing to revive neglected parts. Then you have the river Elbe which splits up into two parts and an island area with lots of greenery and lakes - and of course bridges and a tower with a viewing platform. 🤩

Someone had told me about all the red flowers blooming at the local war cemetery so naturally I had to go and check it out. My guess is that these small bushy roses were planted as they last a bit longer than the symbolic poppies but give a similar visual impression.

The weather didn’t make any promises today, the sky remained steel grey throughout and at times there were rain drops. Somehow we managed to avoid the worst and had a really good time out there which culminated in my companion swimming in a nearby lake. Only when we had arrived back home did the heavens really open.
