The Como fairytale: reaching the Champions League 119 years after the club's founding.

AGI - On May 25, 1907, a group of supporters gathered in a downtown bar to found the Como Foot-Ball Club. Ninety-nine years later, the border city, more Swiss than Italian in character, reserved for a quiet life and love of it, appears transformed by joy.

“In Italia e nel mondo semm cumasch” is one of the club’s historical identity anthems from the Como curve, which reached its peak exoticism with a third-place finish in the 1981 Mitropa Cup, a mythical tournament for the winners of Serie B championships.

Money, certainly. The immense financial resources of the Indonesian Hartono family were at the base of the successes, but the story isn't as simple as it appears.

While Cesc Fabregas was a star player, he hadn’t even obtained his coaching license when he took Como to Serie B. And while he spent over one hundred million in the market, the only player he bought with a name, Alvaro Morata, was the worst performer.

Some discontent exists regarding the project for the new Sinigaglia, considered by many to be too intrusive on the landscape.

The New Pride of Como’s Fans

Finally, there’s the romantic side of this story: the children who have always supported Inter, Milan, and Juve, considering Como the second team, now grow up fully in blue and chant proudly at the “Pulenta e Galena” stadium, named after the Comascan Davide Van De Sfroos. Polenta and cold chicken – who knows what they’ll taste in Europe.

“L’orgoglio per la nostra prestazione non può superare la mia delusione per il comportamento mostrato da alcuni nella tribuna d’onore nei confronti della delegazione avversaria“. Mirwan Suwarso rimprovera i tifosi del suo Como. Lo ha fatto con un post su Instagram in cui ha prima sottolineato l’orgoglio per la sua squadra nonostante la sconfitta per 3-4 contro l’Inter, poi ha però criticato alcuni atteggiamenti percepiti in tribuna. “Nonostante il risultato finale, sono incredibilmente orgoglioso della nostra squadra. Ha dato tutto in campo e ha combattuto con vero onore. Questo è lo spirito che ci definisce”, si apre il post. Poi l’accento però si pone sui comportamenti fuori dal campo, nello specifico in tribuna d’onore, dove Suwarso siede ogni partita e dove sono presenti sempre dirigenti della squadra avversaria: “Capisco che il calcio porti emozioni intense, ma non dobbiamo mai perdere di vista chi siamo”, avverte il presidente del Como.
Alla base del suo messaggio ci sarebbero insulti da parte dei tifosi al Como all’Inter, nello specifico ai dirigenti del club nerazzurro presenti al “Sinigaglia” nella sfida di domenica sera. “Il nostro è un Club con valori solidi e la dignità è uno di quelli più importanti. Questa dignità deve estendersi oltre il campo, verso i nostri avversari, i loro tifosi e soprattutto i loro dirigenti e rappresentanti. Sono nostri ospiti e meritano rispetto. Scherni e insulti nella tribuna d’onore non rappresentano il club che stiamo costruendo. Minano i valori stessi che difendiamo”, sottolinea ancora il patron del Como.
Dai fischi a Barella all’uscita dal campo (con reazione del centrocampista nerazzurro) fino a quelli nel primo tempo per Alessandro Bastoni, passando per presunti insulti alla dirigenza dell’Inter: sono diversi gli episodi su cui il patron del Como pone l’accento. “Prenderemo le misure necessarie per garantire che questo standard venga rispettato. L’integrità del nostro club e il progresso della lega nel suo insieme dipendono dal rispetto reciproco“, spiega Suwarso, che ha poi concluso: “Chi non sarà in grado di rispettarlo non sarà il benvenuto. Cresciamo insieme, con dignità e integrità, dentro e fuori dal campo”.

He did this with a post on Instagram in which he first emphasized his pride in his team despite the 3-4 loss to Inter, then criticized certain attitudes perceived in the guest box. “Despite the final result, I am incredibly proud of our team. They gave everything on the field and fought with true honor. This is the spirit that defines us,” the post begins. Then the focus shifts to off-the-field behavior, specifically in the guest box, where Suwarso sits every game and where the directors of the opposing team are always present: “I understand that football brings intense emotions, but we must never lose sight of who we are,” warns the president of Como.
