1/2
I used to struggle with serious decision fatigue when #ThriftShopping/ #OppShopping. I used to get sidetracked looking at all sorts of stuff, buy clothes just because they fit without thinking if I would actually enjoy wearing them, spend more than I wanted to, and still have nothing to wear.
Here’s how I’m turning things around and now actually enjoying my #SecondHand shops.
1: I learned that I am worthy of feeling great in what I wear. I’ve been obese my entire adult life. Without realising it, I had made the assumption that I would look and feel bad in anything I wore, and therefore, I just wore whatever. I am thankful for some role models who showed me #SustainableFashion was for everybody, and even I deserved to feel good in my clothes.
2: I developed my own sense of style. With some help, I made a mood board based on the 3 items of clothing from my wardrobe that I felt good in… literally three. There were specific reasons I liked each of them, I found photos of similar garments with the same properties I liked and added them to my board, looked up advice for my body shape and tried to nail down a colour season, then used those for some more ideas. This gave me a very narrow idea of what might be ‘my style’ then came the interesting part… I went out shopping with a veteran #Thrifter who had a good grasp of #Fashion. What I ended up buying was not identical to my mood board, but it was a small collection of things I felt good in and that mixed and matched well.
