Emotional David Littleproud steps down as leader of the National Party

David Littleproud has quit as leader of the National Party of Australia.

In recent months, David Littleproud's notable leadership achievements include:
- Breaking-up the decades-long Coalition between the Nationals and the Liberals multiple times in a matter of months.
- Coming close to destroying the LNP / Coalition with the contrarily-named Liberal Party of Australia, and securing its position of irrelevancy for the next election.
- Coming close to destroying the National Party, and securing their position of irrelevancy for the next election.
- Failing to swing the Coalition so far to the right that it adopts his personal Neo-Nazi policies.
- Giving airtime to Neo-Nazi policies, such as those espoused by One Nation, thereby doing nothing to help the Nationals but drastically improving One Nation's polling for the next election.
- Shafting prior, long-standing leader of the National Party, Bananaby Joyce, so nastily that he quit the Nationals and sucked-up to Pauline Hanson to join One Nation.
- Shafting leader of the Liberal Party, Susssan Ley, so nastily that she lost a spill for her party's leadership position to Angus Taylor, and then quit politics altogether.

That's quite a list of achievements by David Littleproud! Little wonder that he proclaimed, "I'm buggered, I've had enough," at today's press conference.

'I'm buggered': Littleproud declares it's time for new Nationals leader

The Queenslander cried as he spoke to reporters, saying it had been a "pretty rough" time since the May election.

Congratulations to Angus Taylor on successfully knifing Susssan Ley.
Your prize is to be the new Leader of the Opposition.
Your punishment is to be the new Leader of the Liberal Party of Australia.

And, commissarations to Susssan Ley. The Liberal Party is such a sexist sausage-fest that their first female leader was only permitted to last a few months (5 May 2025 to 13 February 2026), and had to defend herself from her own followers the whole time.

Angus Taylor won the internal party vote with 34 votes to 17. That margin of support inside the party will mean nothing to the voting public in two years, and it will mean nothing to the party in two months.

It's a nail-biter to see if Susssan Ley will hold on to her position of Leader of the Opposition, or if she'll be undermined by opposition from inside her own political party.

You have to ask Susssan Ley and Angus Taylor: what are you both fighting over?
The Liberal Party of Australia is such a shitshow that the winner's prize isn't worth it.

The same can be said for Jane Hume, Dan Tehan, and Ted O'Brien โ€” they're squabbling as though they're lining-up to be Deputy Prime Minister and one day potentially Prime Minister, but they're going for something else entirely, which is of no value: position of Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party.

Angus Taylor's spill against Susssan Ley today is off to a bad start. He's flubbed a saying about plain-speaking, and he's issued an evasive and ambiguous statement about what he'd bring to the Liberal Party of Australia if he were to be leader. In a sign of how shambolic this spill is, Sky News is sending mixed messages: Andrew Bolt says Angus Taylor's statements are "underwhelming", and Peta Credlin can only repeat her usual anti-feminist drone and try to justify the "glass ceiling" on the careers of women in the Liberal Party.

Political support for Angus Taylor has come from notable trainwrecks such as disgraced MP Timmy "Freedom" Wilson, and Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, who ran as Angus Taylor's deputy in is previous failed spill.

Symbolic resignations to show loss of faith in Susssan Ley and support for Angus Taylor include:
- Phillip Thompson, MP from Queensland.
- Claire Chandler from Tasmania, who was Shadow Minister for Cyber Security and Shadow Minister for Science.
- Senator Jess Collins, NSW.
- James Patterson, frontbench seat-warmer.
- Jonno Duniam, Senator for Tasmania.
- Matt Oโ€™Sullivan, Senator for Western Australia.

Senator Jane Hume has signalled she wants to be the deputy Liberal leader, which must be a surprise to the current deputy leader, Ted O'Brien, who says he wants to keep his job.

Ot appears Angus Taylor's handlers have convinced him that he has the numbers to shiv Susssan Ley.

My opinion is that Angus Taylor doesn't have a strong enough grasp of mathematics to do the sums for himself โ€” because if he did, he'd be more cautious.

One wonders if Angus Taylor has been taking advice from the same innumerate people who set-up Peter Dutton for his failed spill against Malcolm Turnbull in August 2018 that handed the party leadership and position of Prime Minister to Scott Morrison.

Tony Abbott intervenes in Liberal leadership battle calling on right to unite to oust Sussan Ley

It hurts me to say this, but: Susssan Ley is right. She's recognised that if the Liberal Party is to survive, to present itself as a credible Opposition, and have more than just a dream of winning an election in the next decade, it needs to be overhauled.

Susssan Ley has a mountain of work ahead of her if she's trying to reform and modernise the Liberal Party. This comes after years that cannot be swept under the carpet, and memories that stretch back so far in people's minds that we have a clear picture of what is "normal" for the Liberal Party. Some people like Tony Abbott want that "tradition" that he was part of and benefited from to persist, and for the rest of us to forget the aspects that were terrible for most people in Australia.

But, who can forget the lies and racism and RWNJ extremism resembling Nazism of the Malignant Potato Peter Dutton, the lies and racism and self-serving religious quackery of the Liar from the Shire Scott Morrison, the lies and racism and outrageous sexism and anti-intellectualism and cruelty disguised as boofheadedness of The Mad Monk Tony Abbott, the lies and racism and nonsensical neo-con ideology of Malcolm Turnbull, and the lies and racism and mean-spirited divide-and-conquer class-warfare of John Howard?

Tony Abbott intervenes in Liberal leadership battle

Former prime minister Tony Abbott has intervened in the Liberal leadership race, urging conservatives to unite behind either Angus Taylor or Andrew Hastie in their bid to oust Sussan Ley from the top job.

Betteridge's Law: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." Susssan Ley has made it through recent challenges, and is safe for now, but I think she'll be ousted as Federal Opposition Leader before the next election.

Shadow minister Andrew Hastie says he will be 'without a job' if Liberals don't abandon net zero
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-15/andrew-hastie-flags-resignation-or-sacking-over-liberal-net-zero/105776432

Okay, Andrew Hastie, goodbye! If that piece of trash is threatening to take itself out, then let it.

Andrew Hastie is making a bizarre altimatum to try to force a policy change for the LNP. By acting like he thinks Susssan Ley is a pushover, he's created another leadership-test for her. If she's serious, she has no option but to sack him.

The LNP have already shown they are rabidly anti-environment, so any attempt to abandon Net Zero is nuts. It's also notable that Net Zero is itself a weak target. In essence, it means: "Our friends in the Fossil Fuel business can keep making pollution as long as the rest of you take-on the burden of cancelling-out the harm." Not only is that unfair, but reality doesn't work like that. Any pollution from fossil fuel is bad for the environment, so instead of Net Zero, we need to stop using fossil fuels.

Shadow minister Andrew Hastie says he will be 'without a job' if Liberals don't abandon net zero

Liberal frontbencher Andrew Hastie indicates he will quit or be dumped from the shadow cabinet if the Coalition does not abandon the target of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
