Why don't #bike #suspension designs for forks use square stanchions with roller/needle bearings in cases where sticktion and rigidity take precedence over weight?

The bushings of telescopic forks are still a nightmare for maintenance, and requires a constant bath of oil, else they burn up quick.

The overall damper and spring design is the same in both a square stanchion and a "normal" round one.

The cannondale headshok does this to great success, Even worn out shims and bearings usually give a fairly smooth travel.
