Any #Survivor fans out there? If so, here's my thoughts on the finale of Season 46, and since it's 24hr after, there's going to be a lot of spoilers if you haven't seen it yet.
First and foremost, the show is getting too scripted, too staged, and too predictable, even though the editors do their best to obfuscate what is actually going on at camp before tribal jury for us viewers, so they can have the joy of BLINDSIDING the viewers. And they have to get back to doing the live show for the reading of the votes, with fam and friends present. Not to mention go somewhere else than the 3 islands they lease in Fiji.
Next... Maria. She's the true villain this season (Q is just an unintended chaos monster because he's flighty, simple-minded and 1000% self absorbed).
Maria played like the nice, wise "mom" and sure, had a super strong challenge game, but she showed her character in
- thinking Ben was always lying (he was not - she was projecting)
- not picking Liz for that food reward when Liz clearly needed it
- Her constant straight face lying in her last 4 or 5 days to everyone
- Her "spite" vote for Kenzie on the jury. That was not a "Oh, I decided fire and passion in the jury final was how I would vote", that was a spite vote against Charlie.
Maria's taking a shit ton of heat online since yesterday, even to the point where Charlie went online to plead for folks not to trash her (showing his character; though he also said they were not friends any longer).
In a way tho, I am happy that Maria spite-voted Kenzie; a tie would have been absolutely soul crushing for Ben to have to choose the winner.
Personally, I think Charlie deserved the win the most, then Kenzie.
Ben, God love him, is amazing and a guy I would love to hang out with; and I'm sure he'll get the Sia Award; Sia might even kick a few hundred Gs towards' Ben's music non profit.
Liz... 95% sure she's bipolar. But man, did I feel for her when she was given the rock paper scissors treatment by Maria and lost.
As for the jury - what an ego-driven jury this time. I cannot recall a more mightier-than-thou jury in recent memory. The only one who I felt wasn't this way was Hunter. I'd like to see him come back in a later season. The rest? Adios.
Lastly - Q is just deranged. Definitely one of the more polarizing people to be on the show in some time. But unlike true past villains, like Russell Hanz, he also had zero charisma.
