Sparkle - The National Transgender Charity on Instagram: "Statement: Supreme Court Ruling 16th April 2025
Today’s Supreme Court ruling has left many in our community, especially trans women, feeling shaken, dismissed and disheartened. Once again, identity and our bodies, hearts and minds used in basic language and being debated instead of respected, rationalised and upheld.
We see the pain and uncertainty this causes, and we hold space for it.
Legal definitions may change, but our love, support and recognition of trans women does not. Trans women are women. That truth stands, no matter what.
This ruling was made without hearing from a single transgender organisation. Our voices, our lives, and our realities were not represented and that speaks volumes about the harm still embedded in our systems.
We see our trans siblings as absolutely valid. We love, respect and uplift trans women and our trans masculine and AFAB siblings. We see you, we love you, and we will fight for you too.
If today feels heavy, please remember you are not alone. You are seen, loved and needed. We will continue to stand beside you, fight for justice and build a future where trans lives are celebrated, not questioned.
We will with other organisations unpick, note take, challenge and push forward not only the ruling today but also the subsequent changes as and when they come, with absolute conviction.
We are voluntary led, and we feel this today as many of you do. So today of all days, be angry, be upset, but be kind to yourself and take up space in the world.
