Trying two new supplements today. One, magnesium threonate, is said to be good for the brain and ADHD. I parked bisglycinate for leaving me dozy the next day. I‘m not here for more of that. Full dose is three capsules so I started with one. The other, Alpha GPC, is disappointingly mild but better than the opposite. It’s a type of choline, also for the brain focus.

Two years ago I took a nootropic mix that includes a special type of it and just half the dose made my brain zing so I was indeed very focused for 14 hours and did the second half of act one in Baldur’s Gate 3 (9am-4am). My back was a bit wrecked.

So this could have gone horribly wrong. Half an hour since taking it might seem early days, but many things show me their colours fast. Or they’re sitting around in there doing nothing much and I can’t tell 😏

If somebody asked me the keys to my academic success since going back to high school to get my degree, the most honest answer I could give is "three doses a day of kratom and about 600 mgs of caffeine"

Yesterday I was looking at the ingredients of the supplement from GetDopa since I can’t take all of it (tyrosine upsets insulin and I think they use the type of magnesium that make me dozy). Even a low dose of ADHD meds was too strong, so that’s dopamine and adrenaline rather left in the dust. I found this page which was very interesting https://adhdreimagined.substack.com/p/rethinking-adhd-beyond-dopamine-the

About glutamate. I have increased how much omega and creatine I was taking and tbh idk if it has helped yet (I often feel a difference fast, but idk if many of my supplements are doing much, just trusting them for a while). I did feel less difficulty getting moving on something I needed to do, but maybe it was just a different day anyway.

Still, interesting to see the recommended dose being higher than I realised. I’ve been erring towards caution, but I had read that too low a dose of some means they might be doing nothing (you’d think some was indeed something).

Concerning Omega-3 Brain Study | Dr Brad Stanfield

Stanfield suggests the association could be the result of reverse causation, or could be due to harmful effects of oxidized fish oil. [1]

Another thing worth mentioning is that omega-3 supplementation is associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation, and there is a mechanistic link with DHA via modulation of PIEZO1. [2]
Afib is associated with increased risk of dementia. So perhaps there is a shared underlying mechanism. [3]

Further on potential shared mechanisms - PIEZO1 is '...linked to the metabolic state of microglia...'. [4]

Concerning Omega-3 Brain Study

ADHD-brain being so sparky has also had me singing more (tbh I tend to think of that as an autistic trait, but idk). And brain being more like this has got in the way of sleep some more lately too.

SoulBrew Rise, just maybe, to the rescue. I’m already fairly tired in spite of feeling more alert, so the Maca and Ashwagandha in it are relaxing enough to feel the difference. Which is especially good since Rise is meant for focus in the mornings while their Dream drink powder is for the evening 😏

Like the ADHD caffeine effect, but without the caffeine. Caffeine does perk me up, but it has too often drained away fast so I don’t often seek it out.

An annoying part of my new issue of more obvious ADHD symptoms since some healing cleared more (maybe the last) of burnout.

I can’t manage or be bothered very quickly to get up and sort out food. I feel lightheaded, I think of what I could get from the kitchen, and I’m still here an hour or two later and I barely care.

Not looking for advice btw, but I guess I’ll take another look at supplements. I had to stop tyrosine because it messes up insulin.
