My beautiful mess of a #HomeGarden . Leaving some #WildStrawberries and other flowers there to attract #pollinators. The #ButternutSquash is a wash, but I have #JapaneseCucumbers and #SummerSquash almost ready to plant. I dug up the #SweetPotatoPlant, which did produce a teeney weeney potato, but not worth the space (and wasn't doing well). However, the #BlackOilSunflowers and #HopiBlueCorn are doing quite well (and I have more to plant), and so are the #AnasaziBeans!

Early summer squash, sliced thin and seared hot till the edges catch, finished with lemon and torn mint — the first squash of the year tastes like the season making a promise it means to keep. There is a quiet in a kitchen at dusk when you feed yourself on purpose, slowly, the way you'd feed someone you loved. No one in your house goes hungry because the week was hard. The last two days of garden harvest. I looked at the small melon bed today and found a ripe melon, then another, and another, and more... Picked all the fully red Marconi sweet peppers and all the paste tomatoes I could find that were ripe.

Beans have slowed down, not many got pollinated when it was hot last week. Same for the squash and zucchini and I haven't been hand pollinating them for a week or so. A couple of orange Flamme tomatoes.

Is it a melon? No! Is it a courgette? Not really, but it is a summer squash. It’s a ‘sharks fin melon gourd’ and you eat it like a courgette. This one is 2kg - we cannot eat them fast enough! #summersquash #growyourownfood #courgette #zuccini
