FTA Safety Advisory 25-1: Reducing Rail Trespassing and Suicide Events | Colleen Kelly
Nearly 300 individuals die by suicide each year on the U.S. rail system. Suicide-related incidents, including intentionally jumping, walking, or lying in front of trains, have been increasing. In response, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has issued Safety Advisory 25-1 (SA 25-1). This advisory recommends that State Safety Oversight Agencies (SSOAs) instruct Rail Transit Agencies (RTAs) within their jurisdiction to implement their Safety Management System (SMS) to: ๐ Identify hazards related to rail trespassing and suicide events, ๐ Perform safety risk assessments, ๐ Identify safety risk mitigations, and ๐ Utilize safety performance monitoring and measurement procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigations #SuicidePrevention #RailroadSafety https://lnkd.in/e2ZxUZaK
