FTA Safety Advisory 25-1: Reducing Rail Trespassing and Suicide Events | Colleen Kelly

Nearly 300 individuals die by suicide each year on the U.S. rail system. Suicide-related incidents, including intentionally jumping, walking, or lying in front of trains, have been increasing. In response, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has issued Safety Advisory 25-1 (SA 25-1). This advisory recommends that State Safety Oversight Agencies (SSOAs) instruct Rail Transit Agencies (RTAs) within their jurisdiction to implement their Safety Management System (SMS) to: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Identify hazards related to rail trespassing and suicide events, ๐Ÿ‘‰ Perform safety risk assessments, ๐Ÿ‘‰ Identify safety risk mitigations, and ๐Ÿ‘‰ Utilize safety performance monitoring and measurement procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigations #SuicidePrevention #RailroadSafety https://lnkd.in/e2ZxUZaK
