Golden Handcuffs - FERS consideration
My first world problem is that FERS is making me reconsider everything. I am an SES at the 0.8% FERS rate. I hate my job… but I get paid a lot of money. The people I work with are decent so there are definitely worse places to be but it’s far from a job I enjoy.I was offered a dream job that pays $25K more in the private sector but no pension obviously. I have 19 years of fed service so FERS would freeze at 19%.The increase in salary won’t make up for the loss in pension. I would need another $50K a year to break even because of that pension. It’s a first world problem for sure but I am torn on what to do. I would consider trying out the private sector job for a couple of years and coming back to federal service but with all the changes to SES I think landing another SES job would be hard to do or maybe it’s all in my head?
