Call for Submissions on MasticadoresUSA

MasticadoresUSA is flush with poetry, but I accept other literary and creative forms. Please read on. I love variety.

Submission Guidelines

MasticadoresUSA accepts poetry (various forms), reviews, interviews, short fiction, memoirs, book promotions, video readings of your work, art pieces, and articles. Surprise me!

I am flexible about the themes, but will not publish work that is sexist, racist, homophobic, sexually explicit, or hateful. No profanity, please.

Your work must be original. Plagiarism isn’t tolerated. Our Director, Juan Re Crivello, has a strict policy about composing with AI.

You are not required to submit images. I prefer to select images using royalty-free and public-domain sites with strict standards against AI-generated images (Pexels and Unsplash).

However, I will accept original art images and consider images you feel are essential to the post. If you submit an image, you must state the creator’s name, not just the site, and you must use Pexels, Unsplash, or a site offering public domain art. Please provide the link in the submission email text. I reserve the right to change the image.

I prefer no simultaneous submissions.  Please inform me if your work has been accepted elsewhere and if you have also submitted it to MasticadoresUSA.

If you submit a reprint, please inform me where the work first appeared.

After publication, all rights revert to the author.  If your work is republished in the future, please credit MasticadoresUSA as the previous publisher.

Before submitting, please proofread and edit your piece for mechanical errors and inconsistencies.

The Bio: 50-75 words, third person, clearly written, and edited.

Word Limits: Posts should not exceed 1200 words.

Please email submissions to [email protected]. Please use a single email thread for record-keeping when communicating about each submission

@Outwriterandom
8/🧵 Your odds of getting traditionally published are better than most people think.

I was an editor in #TraditionalPublishing for years. I saw some truly awful writers make it to bookstores simply because they knew how to catch an editor's attention and sell their work.

Whether it's for short stories or books, you need to know how to RESEARCH the various publishers so you can target which one to send to. Don't waste time sending your vampire romance to a religious publisher.

Whatever their #SubmissionGuidelines, FOLLOW them.

Write a good #QueryLetter with a great HOOK. Catch the attention right off. Don't come across as an amateur or unimaginative.

Some lines to avoid in #QueryLetters include "I always wanted to be a writer" (everyone who submits a manuscript can say that), and "Dear Sir or Madam" (RESEARCH the publisher and verify the editor's name).

After that, you need *persistence* to keep it up until you're published.

Submitting Your Work and Dealing with Rejection

Rejection happens… a LOT. It SHOULD happen a lot, if you’re doing it right. If your manuscript hasn’t been rejected by at least a dozen publishers (preferably more)…
