It really is Glasgow's Victorian commercial architecture at its best, but its a part of the city we rarely shout about or encourage visitors to explore. It's also increasingly becoming encroached on by rather soulless modern buildings, much to the detriment of the local streetscape.

On the other corners are the equally impressive Norwich Union Chambers, the magnificently over-the-top Liverpool and London and Global building and an imposing Classical style office building. Further east on St Vincent Street and leading down Hope Street are more magnificent buildings from this same period.

The corner of St Vincent Street and Hope Street in central Glasgow. This is one of the best preserved late Victorian crossroads in the city. On this corner is the 1900 Royal Bank Chambers, designed by Burnet and Boston, flanked by James Salmon Junior's 1899 Glasgow Style Hat-rack building on the left and John Campbell's 1902 red sandstone mini-skyscraper on the right.
