NielsoCurrently having insane work load in event tech, I still find a little time, and now is a time to listen to a few tracks of the #StrategiesAgainstAlgorithms by @stephan – I'd love to write a detailed review somewhen.
For now… while this record feels very personal Stephan / Schall & Stille, I can also sense influences… some tracks remind me of #Faithless. Not the Faithless of the radio edit of Insomnia, the uncut album versions of things. While vastly electronic, this album for sure feels more than a 100% crafted, not generated.
You can get it and not get it from via Stephan's own art form of distribution: https://strategies.schallundstille.de – basically, you have to trade it with something you created yourself… which in a magical way establishes a type of connection to that music, which gives me an idea of the value this music has for its maker, but also should have for me as a listener. Very different from clicking a „stream now for free“ button.

We're now halfway to the #strategiesagainstalgorithms deadline.
I wanted to write a big post about your wonderful artworks and my experiences with the project so far… but Buba's passing has left me unable to do so, at least for the time being.
So all I can say is (again) thank you all for participating. You made me realize that I don't need to get interviewed by BBC6 or whoever to enjoy making music. A simple "your song moved me so" once in a while is more than enough.

We're trying to somehow move on and distract ourselves but it's difficult.
Today we packaged and sent out the next batch of #strategiesagainstalgorithms
I recorded three songs on it ("Trendula", "Niar" and "The Artist In The Vineyard") while staying with Buba in our friends' cabin at the foot of the Reinhardswald forest. Now I'll treasure those times and those tracks even more.
(that said… I realize that #strategiesagainstalgorithms could also be seen as marketing campaign in the end. It was never meant as one, but of course it created a lot of interest by sheer virtue of being different and being against the status quo. In the long run, that's not sustainable and it's certainly not what I intended, although of course I don't complain about the attention…)
The more feedback I receive on #strategiesagainstalgorithms and the more messages like this deeply move me, the more I am reinforced in my conviction that there should be a platform where people are encouraged to exchange and discover #art – without having to beg and scream and shout and produce flashy videos and be louder than the others (cf. https://schallundstille.de/2025/04/24/what-is-fair/)
No, the Fediverse is not that platform, and neither are the bc alternatives such as #mirlo and #jamcoop
But there *is* a need.

I received a letter. Pretty huge envelope.
And it contained one of the most beautiful book(let)s I have encountered so far. It does deserve the denotation of artwork quite a bit, containing stunning photographs and the lyrics. Now let's see… there's music on this little USB wood block to listen to!
