It doesn't matter if it's punk techno-fantasy or the most well researched historical drama on earth, you _rarely_ see the clothes people wear closest to their body. Which is a shame since those items tend to shape the rest of the outfit. For cosplay reasons this is A Score!
A: this is an awesome composition! It deserves its place in the vignette.
B: it reminds me of the time I worked at a chocolate factory putting truffles in neat lines in boxes. During breaks we _all_ put our lunch boxes and thermoses in straight rows out of sheer habit.
(Yes, we were allowed to eat as much chocolate as we wanted. No, I didn't. Those who did gained A Lot of weight.)
This mystery is starting out with so much good food I want a recipe book! (In English - you don't want me cooking in Mandarin.) I'm also plotting a collapsible version of the cupboard in the background, because it looks quite nice, and apparently my brain just Is Like That.
In 'Go East there were two characters wearing kintsugi patterned costumes. Both had daddy issues, and both got the patterns at moments where they showed that they had grown and made something good out of this. Lu Lingfeng has indeed family troubles, touched upon in this mystery - and look what he's wearing.

I can't find a good picture, but lao Fei reminds me slightly of Snufkin. And while it's not possible to asign full fledged moominsonas* to all the characters, this franchise also share an element of found family with the moomins - including the occasional nod to the fact that this constelation can be just as hard as "real* family.
(*Eventhough Su Wuming clearly is moomin, and Lu Lingfeng is moomin dad - fite me!)
This franchise's attention to detail strikes again! This is the ~standard setup for Weird Ritual Led By Shaman - as seen in Hollywood films and CDramas alike. On stage is a female rain master leading the crowd in dance, and the producer has _not_ fallen for the temptation of having people move in synch. Instead they dance like persons who encounter a dance for the first time; slightly chaotic, missing steps, doubting themselves etc.
Yesterday I did the impossible; I found a watchable version of the 2025 animated Chinese blockbuster 'Nobody'. It definitely deserves its status, so it's a mystery why _no_ streaming services host it rn. Maybe BiliBili does, since I missed them, but...
Viki, iQiyi, Netflix... why the _heck_ are you not snapping it up?
