World’s first semi-submersible floating #offshorewind farm, #WindFloatAtlantic, beats expectations in the face of extreme storms
WindFloat Atlantic was robust in the face of #StormCiaran, which tore through #Europe at the end of October and beginning of November last year, thanks to a powerful jet stream that came in from the #Atlantic. The floating #windfarm weathered wave heights of 20 meters (66 feet) and wind gusts up to 139 km/hr (86 mph).

Staring at the weather station instead of sleeping.

We are still going down but we are quite far off #StormCiaran (for now)

Also I need to clean the rain sensor

November 2023 was another wet month in Southern England, and as we have come to expect, warmer than the 1981-2010 local average. However the final few days brought below average temperatures with light snow on the 30th which is very unusual here.
We also set our low pressure station record of 954.3 hPa on the 2nd as #StormCiarán passed through, one of 3 named storms affecting W. Europe during the month.

We've had issues before with water because.. not enough rainfall, the week just gone it was too much rain that caused it and this was my shower for 3 days or so...

"Together, these and other recent seismic studies complement the results from #climate and ocean research showing that storms, and waves, are intensifying as the climate warms.

#NorthAtlantic waves have intensified the fastest in recent decades compared to historical levels. #StormCiarán, which hit Europe with powerful waves and hurricane-force winds in November 2023, was one record-breaking example."

How global warming shakes the Earth: Seismic data show ocean waves gaining strength as the planet warms

The same instruments used to measure earthquakes pick up vibrations as ocean waves put pressure on the sea floor. Four decades of data tell a story about ocean storms.

Can't help but wonder whether now that the effects of #ClimateChange are finally being felt in Europe, actual action will happen.

Because despite millions of people having died due to climate change in Asia and Africa--longer droughts, more and stronger storms, etc--too many of the people who cause most of the pollution that heats up the atmosphere haven't felt that they actually have skin in the game, and so they shrug and go on.

Until now.
