Banned on Instagram because it deems all images of women's nipples to be sexual. There is nothing inherently sexual about anything - how we choose to dress, or to be naked is not sexual or provocative. Sexual response, like any response, is the responsibility of the observer.

Meta's policies don't just reflect common sexist norms that objectify and comodify women's bodies, they support, enhance and profit from them.

Body hair. There has clearly been a huge shift in behaviour over the last few decades and it seems to be very common for people to shave all of their pubic hair.

It's absolutely fine, of course, for people to shave or not, but what I think is unhealthy is when there is social pressure to do so. That clearly is what is expected, and that impacts on choice when the choice not to shave is shamed.

I'm pleased to hear from you younger friends that many are rejecting the practice.

Mastodon.. is it going to be better than Meta? I hope so.

I posted uncensored, non-sexual images of women's nipples #FreeTheNipple because it's fine to post non-sexual images of male bodies, showing nipples, without censorship or a CW.

I've been given a warning and a CW has been added to my posts. I've appealed saying -

"It is not considered sensitive to post non-sexual images of men's nipples, so why is it sensitive to post non-sexual images of women's nipples?

There has been a campaign in FB and Instagram for years to overturn their sexist approach to controlling women's bodies. The approach is sexist and linked to the objectification of women's bodies. That implies that women's nipples are always sexual, while those of men are not.

I hope Mastodon will be better."

For me and many other people this is all about the nature of the objectification of bodies and how women's and men's bodies are sexualised in different ways. This is demonstrated by the absurdity of how they treat post gender reassignment surgery. If someone with breasts has them removed, their breastless chests with reconstructed nipples are treated as no issue. If someone has breasts created, they cease to be ok if they have nipples added - fine without the nipples!

I hope Mastodon will support a more appropriate way to treat women's bodies.

Phil Pool – Arting about

Phil Pool - Art and Protest

I'm not going to CW non-sexual images of women's nipples as we wouldn't do so for men's nipples. I'm not bringing Meta's patriarchal sexism over here. And, as men's nipples are not considered to be NSFW, I'm not tagging them that we either.

This is Caroline for my Ages project, with a pose that is also perfect for the #FreeTheNipple campaign. Also with her star shaped nipple casts that I made for my Nipple Stars project.

#FreeTheNipple - I won't censor women's nipples for non-sexual images as we wouldn't do that for men's nips - also not adding NSFW or CW

This is Myra for my Ages project which aims to challenge the social construction of age.

Eva for my Ages project.

The participants provide some writing about who/how they are right now. And we include some clothed and naked shots.

The idea is to illustrate my views about the social construction of age with real life people at all adult ages. So far I have 20 people ranging from 28 to 74 years.

#FuckZuck hates nipples.. actually #Facebook actively supports the objectification of women's bodies.

Its 'community guidelines' declare that nipples on women's breasts are always sexual, other than when it declares that they never are - and in particular when the are nipples on breasts that have been treated for cancer.. let that sink in.. people who have had breast cancers are not, according to FB, sexy.. FuckZuck.

Nipples on bodies that it accepts to be men's bodies are not sexual either - what use do male nipples have beyond feeling sensual when touched?

Several years ago I joined the number of campaigners for the Free The Nipples Movement with my own project "Nipple Stars" to mock Facebook and Instagram. Meta allow very sexualised images of women provided their nipples are censored by what are often absurdly small stickers.

Some of these are star shaped. So I decided to make star shaped plaster casts of people's nipples so that they can post topless photos of their bodies and censor their nipples with casts of their own nipples.. how absurd.

I've done about 40 people so far and they have also written small stories or added little drawings to the project.

Here are photos of the latest participant, and their nipples drying in front of my fire.

#EscapingMeta

I'm not a T*itter escapee, I didn't really do that much it was too full of yuck.

I'm hoping for a home away from the patronising, paternalistic, patriarchal confines of all things Meta #FuckZuck

It's sexist determination that some people's body parts, nipples, are always sexual (therefore 'wrong') and other people's body parts, also nipples, are never sexual (so 'good') is deeply offensive.

Its offense is to block and ban so many artists work and so many people's efforts to support #BodyPositivity #QueerPride and #AgePositive artworks. So many of us face our accounts being closed for lesser and lesser 'offenses' that they become unusable. All but the bland and the kittens and the 'typically beautiful' body-type delusion remain to please the adverts.

And good for Mastodon allowing adults to post adult material, marked as such.
