Two shipments from #Britain of #military components bound for #Israel have been seized in #Belgium, which has banned aircaft carrying military equipment for Israel from stopping in the country or using its airspace.

Last month, the British news website Declassified, Belgian NGO Vredesactie, Irish news website The Ditch, and the Palestinian Youth Movement alerted authorities in Brussels of a shipment travelling from Britain to Israel through #Liege airport.

The consignments left Britain on 23 March and were seized at Liege airport in Belgium on 24 March.

Over 200 people have been arrested central #London on Saturday at a mass demonstration opposing the #UK government’s proscription of the direct action group #PalestineAction.

Some 500 protesters set up camping chairs at the foot of the steps of Trafalgar Square, displaying handmade cardboard signs reading: “I oppose #genocide, I support #Palestine Action.”

The demonstrators were met with a heavy police presence, with vans lining the square hours before the vigil began.

A few days ago, I was walking with a friend through the tents in al-Mawasi, southern #Gaza. We were heading to a small cafe I have frequented since my roof became fabric.

The ground beneath us was mud, the winter air heavy, and the faces around us heavier still. We were talking about the formation of the #US-led “Board of Peace”, in a phase of the so-called ceasefire that is supposedly defined by stability and reconstruction.

At that exact moment, the sound of an explosion tore through the air. We stopped talking, and I found myself asking: how is this a ceasefire? How can peace be declared while explosions still echo above our heads?

It’s been obvious for some time that Americans are souring on Israel, but a Gallup poll that came out on Friday marks a turning point. For the first time in the poll’s 25-year history, it found, more Americans sympathize with the Palestinians than with the Israelis. The shift wasn’t just among Democrats, whose opinion of #Israel has been in free fall in recent years. According to Gallup, only 30 percent of independents now sympathize with Israel; 41 percent sympathize with the #Palestinians. Among adults under 35, support for Israel has fallen to a record low of 23 percent. With numbers like this, bipartisan backing for Israel, long a constant in American politics, will in time become unsustainable.

Eighteen defendants allegedly involved in a #PalestineAction raid on an Israeli-owned arms factory in the #UK will no longer face charges of aggarvated burglary, after six others were acquitted of the same charges.

At Woolwich Crown Court in London on Wednesday, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC said the Crown Prosecution Service had "reconsidered the sufficiency of the evidence" and would offer no evidence on that charge.

The 18 will continue to face other charges in connection with the alleged raid.
