I've told about spoiling a stoichiometry experiment in high school, by going around and telling other students to sprinkle some of their hydrated salt into the bunsen burner flame to see the pretty colors. A sample they were supposed to weigh before and then after heating, using an analytical balance scale.

Most did, spoiling their lab.

It’s fun, reading the labels of salt manufacturers. They have all sorts of subtle ways of signaling virtue “reduced salt”. (presumably higher impurities?). “reduced sodium” (hopefully not just shipping the chloride ions) also subtly teaching stoichiometry. This one only has 550 mg of sodium per 1.4g serving (but wait till you see what other brands have). #chemistry #stoichiometry
