> Corporations were given the rights of immortal persons. But then special kinds of persons, persons who had no moral conscience. These are a special kind of persons, which are designed by law, to be concerned only for their stockholders. And not, say, what are sometimes called their stakeholders, like the community or the work force or whatever.

#ScottGalloway: "Of the 500 S&P CEOs, I would be 495 of them wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and say 'good morning, Mr. #President'... There's an opportunity for someone to speak up but no one has taken that risk for fear... it'll hurt #stockholder value."
@feld @micahflee all the big #west #carcompanies are f**ed they bowed too low to the #stockholder #bank #investor #dividend greedy killed those companies, instead of bowing to the customer and building what the customer wants, they focused on profits and profits at any costs. and now it costs them their future, #Ford #GM #Mercedes #BMW #VW #Nissan #Toyota they need to drop their competition and team up against #China or they will lose and not survive
In publicly traded companies, the interests of shareholders and employees often don't align. If you have exempt employees who show they are willing to work 60 or more hours to complete a project then you have established their work week can consist of 60 or more hours per week. To assign them less than 60 or more hours of work per week, every week, is a disservice to those who have an interest in wringing the most profit possible from the company. #corporations #stockholder #employment

@rbreich is amazing at communicating about how messed up the US economy is due to #monopolies and #oligopolies (and his team is brilliant at making it YouTube friendly).

The tragedy of the success of the #astroturf "economic theory" that is the #ChicagoSchool is unfolding horrifically and will cause damage to everyone but the 1% for decades to come. We need to dump #stockholder capitalism in favor of #stakeholder capitalism. We need strong #regulation of political donations. We need strong #unions. We need #trustbusters to come down hard on #anticompetitive mergers and break up hyperconsolidated behemoths (not just products & services but media too).

Lastly, if corporations can be international, then unions should be international, too.

""Think of the two major possibilities here: Either the #studios owe untold millions to their talents and paying it out will decimate their stock #prices, or they owe so little because there really is no #money in #streaming and the bubble of their entire 21st century #business model will burst in spectacular fashion. And make no mistake: this is a bubble. This is the #inevitable climax of a #stockholder-driven hunger for infinite growth, despite the fact that, by design, such a thing cannot and should not exist. The #infection of Wall Street has overwhelmed the entertainment #industry beyond repair, leading to #cultural #vandals like David Zaslav to be appointed with the callous duty of strip-mining decades’ of #artistic beauty for pennies of #tax write-offs. The #past and #future are frivolous in comparison to the short-term demands that the line keep going up."

Studios Are Terrified That the Strikes Will Reveal the Truth About Streaming

We are now part of the Summer of Strike. After failed negotiations with the studios and corporations who run the entertainment industry, both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) have taken to the picket lines....
