“Twisted Metal” é renovada para a 3ª temporada; série ganha novo showrunner

A Peacock confirmou a renovação de “Twisted Metal” para a 3ª temporada. A notícia chega acompanhada de uma grande mudança nos bastidores: David Reed (The Boys, Supernatural) será o novo showrunner e produtor executivo, substituindo Michael Jonathan Smith, que deixou a série após comandar as duas primeiras temporadas.

Segundo o serviço de streaming, Smith “concluiu seu envolvimento como showrunner e produtor executivo”.

A decisão ocorre após o forte desempenho da 2ª temporada, lançada em julho, que acumulou 993 milhões de minutos assistidos, tornando-se a segunda temporada original roteirizada mais vista da história do Peacock.

Com vasta experiência em narrativas de ação extrema e humor ácido, Reed chega ao comando após trabalhar em títulos como “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds“, “The Magicians“, “Revolution” e “Aquarius“. Ele também mantém contrato geral com a Sony Pictures Television, reforçando a transição estratégica para a nova fase da série.

Baseada na franquia de jogos da PlayStation, “Twisted Metal” é protagonizada por Anthony Mackie e Stephanie Beatriz, que retornam como John Doe e Quiet. A trama acompanha um entregador falastrão encarando um deserto pós-apocalíptico repleto de saqueadores e pilotos insanos, liderados pelo palhaço assassino Sweet Tooth, interpretado por Joe Seanoa e dublado por Will Arnett.

A 2ª temporada elevou as apostas ao introduzir figuras centrais da mitologia dos games, incluindo Tiana Okoye como Dollface e Anthony Carrigan como Calypso, o manipulador anfitrião do torneio de demolição que dá nome à série. O final da temporada deixa gancho direto para o terceiro ano, com John e Quiet sendo incriminados por Calypso pelo massacre de espectadores do torneio, preparando o terreno para uma guerra entre Insiders e Outsiders.
