Later G saw the baby bear bouncing up and down while running around Mama in the driveway. Mama was more: “It’s about time you got back, let’s get the fuck out of here!” and they both ran out the end of the driveway and across the road into the woods.

Much later we found the toy halfway down the driveway. Somehow she thought the best choice was to growl and then chase the bear WITH the toy in her mouth!
I later told Stella a better choice would be to stand just 10-20 feet in front of G pointing at the bear and bark very fast continuously. I’m not sure she really took the advice in.

Reconstructing we think mama bear was just trying to keep close to curious baby bear and moved more quickly to intervene when baby bear tried to crawl under a car. That’s likely when Stella noticed.
Stella, our two bouncy year old retriever-lab mix always finds a toy to put in her mouth before greeting friends. She was under Magnolia with a toy with a treat inside.

Stella meets a bear!
Yesterday oldest daughter G was sitting outside with Stella who was under magnolia tree with a toy with a treat inside. G heard Stella growl, stood up and Stella raced out to a big bear next to a car in the driveway who might be after a cat. G ran after dog and bear screaming and trying to be scary. Stella came back and G pulled her inside. All involved ok.
Bear came back, little black not a cat, a baby bear!
