Data for Development

Interesting results in @digitalscience and @springernature #StateOfOpenData report https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.24428194.v1.

This graph shows a breakdown by field of the openness of survey respondents to four open science practices.

The pattern is almost the same for all fields: Researchers are most strongly in support of open access, followed by open data, then open peer review and finally preprinting.

The State of Open Data 2023

Digital Science, Figshare and Springer Nature are proud to share The State of Open Data 2023. Now in its eighth year, The State of Open Data is the longest-running longitudinal analysis of researchers' attitudes towards and experiences of open data. This year's report features opening remarks from Springer Nature's CPO, Harsh Jegadeesan, and Digital Science's CEO, Daniel Hook. Over 6000 researchers responded globally and for the first time, this year we asked respondents about their experiences of using artificial intelligence (AI) to collect and share data. Digital Science, Figshare and Springer Nature extend their thanks to Shift Insight, who collected the 2023 survey data and undertook the initial analysis, as well as our all-important respondents who provided us with unparalleled insights and enabled us to bring the survey findings to the wider research community.

The State of Open Data Report 2023: Support for researchers still lacking

In the eighth annual The State of Open Data report released today, almost three quarters of surveyed researchers overwhelmingly said they are still not getting the support they need to share their data openly. Such data highlights the increased need for greater community collaboration and tools to support researchers in the move to sustainable open science practices.
