continuing the long tradition of petitions to keep #StarTrek on the air, someone has started on on Change(.)org to get #StarfleetAcademy a third season (season 2 has completed shooting & will air but the show has been cancelled and currently won’t have a third season)

I only watched the first season a couple of weeks ago and I quite enjoyed it – it’s clearly aimed at a younger audience, but to me it’s Trek through & through. as with every new Star Trek incarnation, it takes the core premise and asks the questions (as does all good sci-fi) “what does Star Trek have to say about the human condition today, and what parts of today’s society shall we hold the mirror up to in this moment?” all while leaning in to all the tropes and traditions of previous Star Trek shows, books, & other media

but as usual, a subset of whiny man-babies on the internet hate it and are very vocal about that 🤪 their small-minded, racist, & misogynist bleatings have been heard far and wide 🤢

and of course, the current moment that the show is holding the mirror up to is one in which people who hold reactionary, anti-progress, anti-diversity views have been emboldened to express those views even more virulently than usual 😩

– I’m not saying that if you dislike or even hate Star Trek: Starfleet Academy you’re either a whiny man-baby or a reactionary who hates progress & diversity – you are of course welcome to dislike it or even “disown” it if it’s not to your taste or standards

Pondering the Starfleet Academy news.

I think the cancellation is the best possible outcome now that Star Trek is owned by Trump loyalists. I'm also glad that they'll still air the already-shot Season 2.

I like the show a lot; I look forward to seeing the next/final season. But honestly I'd rather see it go, than see it transformed into something its new owners would like.

I hope they sell Trek off, and that not a single episode or film is made under Ellison.

In my opinion, Starfleet Academy, despite its flaws, had the best first season of any of Star Trek series other than TOS. It won't hurt to sign the petition. Please sign.
