LGBTQ+ rights are human rights.

Right now many people are being forced to flee their countries because of who they love or who they are.

We need more awareness, more protection and more people willing to speak up.

Silence helps oppression. Your voice can help change lives.

🕯️ On This Day in LGBTQ+ History: March 1 ⚠️ March 1, 2014: Crimea falls under Russian control and anti LGBTQ laws extend to the peninsula On March 1, 2014, Russia’s Federation Council authorized the use of military force in Ukraine, accelerating the takeover of Crimea. As Russian authority moved into the region, Russian federal laws including the 2013 ban on so called “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations” effectively extended to Crimea. Ukrainian LGBTQ groups warned that the shift in control would dramatically worsen safety conditions for sexual and gender minorities. March 1 stands as a context date marking when geopolitical change translated into the expansion of restrictive anti LGBTQ legislation into a new territory. At this moment in history: 🕯️Public discussion of LGBTQ identity risked prosecution under propaganda laws 🕯️Community events and pride gatherings were canceled due to safety concerns 🕯️Activists reported intimidation, threats, and forced displacement 🕯️Independent media coverage of LGBTQ issues became more restricted March 1 reflects how territorial conflict can rapidly erase fragile protections and impose harsher legal regimes on marginalized communities. Who continues to defend and advocate Local activists in Crimea and mainland Ukraine have worked under extreme pressure to document abuses and support displaced individuals. Ukrainian organizations such as KyivPride and Insight have assisted LGBTQ people affected by the conflict. Regionally, ILGA-Europe and other European human rights networks have monitored developments. Globally, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Outright International have documented the impact of Russia’s laws in occupied territories and advocated for international accountability. #LGBTQHistory #HumanRights #StandWithLGBTQ #LGBTQUkraine Human Rights House Crimea, Human Rights House Foundation, Regional Center for Human Rights, Human Rights Centre ZMINA, Crimean Human Rights Group, and CrimeaSOS

Don't Tell Someone You Love Them, Then Vote for Someone Who Will Harm Them: A Look at Trump's Policies and Their Lasting Impact on LGBTQ+ Rights

@WillRobinson There's not a day I don't remember him. I didn't know him personally but I lived not far from Laramie. I knew the town, those roads. I could visualize the fence where they tied him and set him on fire. It felt personal

I never got over the horror of what they did to him or my fury

And while some things got better, too much is awful or worse right now

I #StandWithLGBTQ

I know it's not enough. I do what I can for the people in my immediate reach. It's not enough 💔

@KT I remember those bad old days. I remember the friends who died so young and I had no words.

I remember the NYC Pride parade back in the 80s, the ocean of bodies down by Christopher and 7th, all allies and survivors of a shared horror

These moments of relief and joy and defiance mean everything. We must never let any soulless fascist hide the light of so many
