#Staffa is a geological marvel. Formed by rapid cooling lava millions of years ago, its cliffs consist of high towering basalt columns, some straight, some bent, some twisted in many directions.
At one end of the island the basalt formed caves, the largest of which is accessible via a footpath from the dock. The other tip of the island is inhabited by a few #puffins which can be spotted when they enter or leave their nests.
The uncontested highlight of this trip to #Scotland and possibly the whole year: a boat ride to Th# islands #Staffa and #Lunga off the coast of the misty Isle of Mull.
It is incredible just how close one can get to the #puffins breeding there. And how close they would fly by our heads, diving into the raging sea from cliffs thirty meters high.
Finished Cave Chorale, the second piece in my paintings and Chorales.
The lyrics are selected lines of the poem Staffa by John Keats. My piece is also inspired by Mendelssohn's overture, I put it in the same key for the essence of it.
The videos are from my trip last March 😊🏞
