15th Century Church at #StPatricksWell in #Clonmel #Tipperary #Ireland
The holy site dates back to 12th Century. The natural spring well has been a site of pilgrimage for centuries.
Legend has it St.Patrick stopped off here on his travels through Ireland, bathed and baptised the locals but there’s no historical evidence to confirm it.
Today people still bathe in the “holy” waters and drink it but Tipperary County Council advise against consuming it.
One of my favourite local landmarks, St. Patrick’s Holy Well just near the village of Marlfield outside Clonmel in South Tipperary.
It's so beautiful and peaceful there, especially at this time of year (though perhaps not so much on a bleak rainy day like today!)
