Him- und Brombeeren, Heckensträucher, Stauden, Disteln).

Ecological drift during colonization drives within-host and between-host heterogeneity in an animal-associated symbiont

Why do specialized host-microbe symbioses show greater diversity than expected? This study of squash bug colonization by Caballeronia bacterial symbionts reveals that heterogeneity and strain diversity in symbiotic microbial communities, both within and between their insect hosts, can be simply explained by stochastic colonization.

Spot the squash vine borer egg. This one had the potential to destroy the entire plant, based on where it was located. Check early and often! #gardening #vegetablegardening #zucchini #pest #squashbug @gardening

This little fellow with the oversized antennae is an early instar nymph of a box bug (Gonocerus acuteangulatus).
Until about 2007 this species was only found in southern Germany. It is now found throughout the country.

I did a couple more hours of extreme gardening this morning, and I'm now barely able to move. I am pleased with myself though - the horrible...
