Binged more Ahiru No Sora  đŸ€ ... up to the introduction of Nanao, new team manager, the klutzy short haired blonde, and the first scrimmage match between Madoka's girl's team and Sora's Men's Team. #SportsAnime #Basketball
I guess he's still longing to see a true #hockey #sportsanime that does justice to his favorite sport and Pura Orange! did not fit the bill according to him. As for me, I'm glad it exists at all and I had fun with it. I'm surprised it actually got a decent đŸ‡ș🇾 dub even.
So I guess I prefer ⚟ baseball focused #SportsAnime as there's less to explain not least because ⚟ has a longer, more established history and tradition in đŸ‡ŻđŸ‡” ; no additional explanations are necessary. Even đŸ‡ŻđŸ‡” Elementary school students know how to play baseball.
As a fan of actual #NBA 🏀 , the one thing that bugs me about #basketball focused #sportsanime is the tendency for it to devolve into Basketball 101 explaining and dramatizing rules and moves that are very basic but given exaggerated significance to explain to a đŸ‡ŻđŸ‡” audience this weird western sport. I'd just rather watch the characters play than have them stop to monologue about the plays the are making.
Continuing to watch Ahiru no Sora  đŸ€ and it's actually starting to hit me in the #feels a bit. #HIDIVE ...I'm a sucker for a good #sportsanime

The catcher in the ballpark Episode 12 review and final thoughts

Thoughts on Episode 12 of Catch me in the ballpark

Vignette 1: Transformative Game

It’s the aftermath of the playoff game. Even though Motorsuns didn’t get to make the playoffs, it’s their last game of the season. Aona has passed her teacher’s exam, whilst Ruriko is still bawling like a baby.

Aww, cutie Aona leaving, that sucks!

Aww, pretty sad to see Aona go, she’s such a cutie. I just laughed at how my fave girl Ruriko is just bawling each time. At the same time, though, it’s understandable for her to be emotionally attached to the vendor girls, which is surprising given that she had been working there for 4 months. Which is the more immature one? Sara or Ruriko. It pretty much ended on a sweet note, with the girls giving Aona her flowers. They did leave the relationship ambiguous with Murata and Ruriko, I felt. There is a hint of a new girl with pink hair, who has left me curious.

Vignette 2: Last Message

Coach decides that this will be his final season. Whilst this comes at a shock to most of the backroom staff and press. He goes through with it. Meanwhile the rest of the players are having an off-season day. Helping out with the club and just goofing around in general.

I wonder who is leaving, don’t leave the suspense out!!!

Just asked Copilot to do the maths on this. 288 wins and 418 losses give the coach a whooping 40%-win ratio. If your team had a 40%-win rate over five years, would you still be rooting for them
or applying for the manager job yourself? That tallies up to what Motorsuns have been throughout the entire series, perpetual underdogs under his 5-year reign. It’s inevitable, really, that not all managers/coaches last. Otherwise, they’ll have the Fergie / Wenger effect. A club is so used to having just one manager leading them for a long duration, in Manchester United case, failing to adapt no matter how much money you throw at the team. It was a really sweet and fitting end for his reign.

Does that mean you’ll be stepping up somewhere else then? you know 40% an all

Vignette 3: It’s Opening Day, Okay?!

It’s the start of a new season. And with it come some changes. A new manager has made some changes to the team. A pink-haired vendor girl is being hired. Motorsuns have been playing away from home; however, this will be their first home game of the season.

Kampai!

A very fitting ending, how it started, ends on how it all began. I’m very interested in the new hire. Intriguing, right? That pink hair’s giving main-character energy
but let’s be real—Ruriko and Kohinata still own my vendor girl loyalty. Not much really happened in this final vignette. I am a little confused about Japan’s baseball, though. In opening games, any top teams play at home, whilst all the other teams play away. I did chuckle at how Ruriko got annoyed at being at the start. She did interrogate Murata (with some jealous mind you), however, his beer is his first one he got this season. Which is sweet.

See you Ruriko, marry me before the manga ends!

Final thoughts and recommendation:

I doubt there will be a 2nd season, if so, it will be very surprising to me. The biggest criticism that can be thrown at the catcher in the ballpark is that it constantly teases with Murata and Ruriko, we got a small hint in episode 9 that it might develop. Sadly, it reverted back. Which is fine for me anyway, since Ruriko and Kohinata are my two vendor girls. Pretty sad we won’t get to find out who the new girl is.

The catcher in the ballpark isn’t a sports show, per se. It uses it as a backdrop for what it is really the star, the characters, sure, there are some baseballs involved, just not as extensive as a specialised sports series is. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the catcher in the ballpark; it pleasantly surprised me. It’s not meant for a big binge, just watched in small pockets. I recommend it, as it doesn’t require thinking too hard.

I give this 8/10.

Thoughts on Episode 11 of Catch me in the ballpark

Vignette 1: The Clincher Part 1

Motorsuns and the entire fan base are on edge. This match will determine who will advance to the playoffs, as they are tied on points with their long-time rival Styxs. Just who will go through with this all-important match

Megumi looking nervous there

I’m smiling on this, damn even I’m on edge seeing who will be going through, which player will make the play that clinches (pun intended) for the club. I love how all the characters from the previous episodes have come together. This is their moment!!! I do feel sorry for Megumi; she didn’t get picked to play the trumpet in band class. That is a bummer.

Vignette 2: The clincher part 2

Motorsuns have a narrow lead over the Styx. However, Mitsui begins to self-doubt himself as his pitches are not making the impact that he hoped it would. However, that isn’t the only problem Shishio has a problem and he isn’t telling the team.

Shout for me as well Ruriko and Kohinata!!Damn it!

Hell yeah, the match is intense! I feel sorry for Mitsui; the pressure is immense for him. I laughed at how much drinks Kisa bought, Ruriko had to remind her to slow down since she was on her fourth! This looks bad, Shishio might have gotten a foot injury, it certainly has impeded his ability to play. Just when he looked, he might catch, he narrowly missed it. I love Ruriko, she is a simple vendor girl, yet she is certainly the heart of the team. She is the sole person to encourage Mitsui which galvanised the fans in to cheering him on too, I do love how Kohinata had to try and calm her down. Two of my faves vendor girls. I’m hoping the team does it, with injury and from what’s happening, I don’t think it can happen though

Vignette 3: The clincher part 3

With a do or die moment coach subs out Mitsui and Shishio. With the latter injury being noticed. Motorsuns had players on bases, just needed to convert, sadly they couldn’t. It went down to the wire, Kojiro needed a run. Alas, their luck just wasn’t on their side. With a catch, Styx go through.

This isn’t going their way
dang itIt’s all on you now kojiro!

Dang, I’m gutted
even Ruriko was crestfallen when it looked hopeless. The pressure to the team, dang first time and all. Understandable, some teams just choke at that moment. I remember when Leeds United choked a few seasons ago. They were at the top of the English Championship at Christmas, then injuries came, followed by dropping in to the playoffs, only to lose that as well. Man, a valiant effort from them. I don’t read the manga, hope they reach it when the manga ends, just for a good feel

Overall Conclusion:

Wow, what an episode. Sure, it was one whole arc, where Motorsuns were making a massive bid to win the playoffs. Heart break for them, and I felt for them. The emotions and the ride throughout the season, told me that Motorsuns are a team worth cheering for, even if they are fictional. I wrote it already, Ruriko is the heart of the club, she spurned Mitsui on, even when the fans initially turned on him. They then showed with whole heart that the team is worth supporting. I’m going to miss this series when the final episode review comes.

Thoughts on Episode 10 of Catch me in the ballpark

Vignette 1: Us back then

Natsume Uda a failing actress and former idol, is having a hard time landing gigs, she makes her way to the stadium where she is recognised by Kohinata. Natsume worked as a vendor girl at the same time as Kohinata. Both look back at the club and their time together. Natsume compares her ailing career to that of the club.

Look at them two beauties!

It’s really great they added a backstory to the episode where they showed Kohinata and a former worker together in a pic. Well, this is that worker. I do feel bad for Natsume, all her efforts aren’t being rewarded, no matter how hard she tries. It is pretty funny how she compares herself to Motorsuns – both try but not achieving what they want. It’s funny, because they are now in a position to be in the playoffs. So, I suspect, Natsume could be getting a major gig as well. Kohinata is close 2nd after Ruriko.

<< Catch me at the ballpark ep 09: The dog, the drama, the defining moment

Vignette 2: Whack that bottom!

Dennis is wondering why his fellow teammate Bryan is getting the team’s ass pat. Bryan hinted that, the issue is Dennis not making eye contact with his teammates. With him up to bat, he gets a homerun, with a very nice outfield shot.

I wish I could say the same BryanWell, you are, duh!

I am laughing at this vignette. The english is pretty much your typical Engrish, where the VA’s do their best in speaking English. However, that isn’t the only thing that got me laughing, and it is a nice nod back to episode 9 where Ruriko mentions Murata by name. She finds it awkward to look him in the eye, Dennis who witnessed Murata being friendly with her, is outright staring daggers into his soul. In a bid to show his worth, he hits a homerun. The hilariousness is that his homerun smacked Ruriko on the butt, you lucky damn ball! and finally, he gets to meet his baseball goddess who gives him a receipt.

Vignette 3: The double T-duo

Koijo is being congratulated for his first born. Everyone except his best friend Tsubaki is informed. So, he decides to use a spare empty room to give his best friend that he is expecting. They both remanence on how they couldn’t join up together. With Tsubaki leaving for the states. However, the phone call led to a startling revelation.

I got work too, to bad it’s on a weekend doing this!Who this mysterious guy?

This vignette is quite touching. The two friends that wanted to play together in the same team, their fates and destiny weren’t aligned. With Tsubaki having to leave Japan. Throughout the series, they have been mentioned. As the call went on, it is slowly hinting at something. I didn’t expect the revelation

Spoilers

Tsubaki is Sun-shiro, Motosun’s mascot

I really enjoyed watching the final scene with Kojiro.

Overall Conclusion:

I got what Natsume is going through, always trying and never really getting that break, whilst others who also try, eventually get that break much earlier than you. And that is demoralising. Whilst keep trying is a thing, there is also diminishing effort. Meaning that, you’re wasting energy in pursuing something that might not happen occur. The second vignette got a laugh out of me, that baseball is lucky to hit Ruriko in the ass. The final one is very touching.
