Integrating the Spirals: Fun mug art and art class debacle

Okay, I'm back with more fun mugs, if for no other reason than to get my spirits up after that debacle of an art class last night! Ha! I made a little video of it, so you can laugh! I’m laughing now… really! I don’t know why I made such a big deal within my own head about it last night. I think I was depressed. I could have pivoted more quickly but because I am now in “protection” mode regarding my back/shoulder/nerve down my arm, I am sensitive about all that rolling out of the […]

Slippery hold, or: A rengay

A two-person ‘Rengay’

By Suzanne and David

sb-I wake with sand sleep
disorientation dawns
early alarm calls
db-       hot spray against my shoulders
salt still lingers on my skin
sb-rivulets of soap
snake a pathway down my spine
to pool at my feet
db-reach down, miss again
routine failure perfected
nothing stays in hand
sb-       I let it spiral from sight
      it loops into tomorrow
db-beneath the ceiling fan
the steady hum draws me in
I lose my bearings

Rengay?

Rengay is a form of linked verse created as an alternative to Japanese renga or renku. The form was devised by Garry Gay in California in 1992. A rengay consists of six thematic haiku verses and is normally composed by two or three poets, although solo and six-person rengay are not uncommon.

This form actually requires a bit of explanation, so I recommend that you read about it HERE.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
