I’ve been #spindlespinning while #cycletouring. This is the first small bit ~ 16 grams that I plied today. Now I appreciate my #spinningwheels even more and my respect for #spindlespinners greatly increased. It is an excellent lightweight hobby for on the road. #TourDeFleece

I have a book charkha. I’ve watched this video from Joan Ruane (I mostly loathe video, but she comes highly recommended as a spinning teacher and it was efficient and informative, so that’s okay.)

She recommends using Vaseline to keep the wheels spinning easily.

Unexpected beginning to a sentence: "As Gandhi explained to Charlie Chaplin in 1931..."
I mean, no surprises finding Gandhi in the Wikipedia article on spinning wheels, but in conversation with Chaplin??
The full sentence is worth quoting: "As Gandhi explained to Charlie Chaplin in 1931, the return to spinning did not mean a rejection of all modern technology but of the exploitative and controlling economic and political system in which textile manufacture had become entangled."
Citation needed, apparently, but the two did indeed meet in 1931. There are pictures.
