I feel so blessed to live in a rural area. This view was a short (15 minute) drive from my house. The land is owned by a local family-run orchard, and offers "pick your own" apple picking in the fall!

#SolarPunkSunday #SpendTimeOutdoors #SilentSunday

So, my makeshift garden gate door needs some support. I did an inventory of hardware, and I need a few parts, so off to the local hardware store. Then a quick jaunt to "Apple Blossom Hill" for a recharge and photos, and some #CommunityGarden time on the way back. And bonus -- I get to play with my recently acquired wood mitre box (none of that plastic shit) and Japanese hand saws! Psyched!

Well, I finally got around to sharing the #MaineAudubon #NatureExplorerBackpacks info with the #LibraryOfThings group. It seems to be a big hit! Good!

"This is a great resource!

Thanks for sharing,

Chris"

Nature Journaling | Portland Public Library

Join Maine Master Naturalist, Cordelia Hill to journal through the seasons. Cordelia will introduce a seasonal topic, lead a warm up activity, and provide time for journaling based on the day's theme.

So, next week the apple blossoms should be blooming in my favorite orchard (atop a hill in the next town over). I'll be able to gauge things by looking at the neighborhood trees. Taking in the blossoms is one of my traditions. Back when I was a kid, we had both apple and pear trees in our yard, and lying in the grass atop a blossom carpet always grounded me (and still does). (Pic is from last year.)

#Florida - #Birding #Backpacks

"Explore the Nature Coast and the native birds of Citrus County with a Birding Backpack from your Citrus Library. These Birding Backpacks contain everything you need to identify birds native to Florida and North America.

What are Birding Backpacks

The Nature Coast is home to many kinds of birds. Citrus County alone is home to at least 330 bird species. This is over one-fourth of the birds that have been seen in the United States!

It only makes sense that the Citrus County Audubon Society would want to share their love of this “Birder’s Paradise” with others.

These Birding Backpacks, assembled by the Citrus County Library system, include materials provided by the Citrus County Audubon Society, Max Schulman, Tom Craig, and the Citrus County Library system.

Each Birding Backpack contains:

1 pair binoculars
1 book Birds of Florida field guide
1 pamphlet Birds of Central Florida : a guide to common & notable species
1 pamphlet Florida Birds : a folding pocket guide to familiar species."
