I remember a patient, let’s call him Mr. Miller, whose hands trembled so much from Parkinson’s disease that he couldn’t enjoy his morning coffee or sign his name on his granddaughter's birthday card. #Alzheimersdisease #brainhealth #NeurologicalDisorders #neurorehabilitation #occupationaltherapy #physicaltherapy #speechtherapy
If you are trying to shift your voice pitch into a higher range (gender neutral or feminine), I would really encourage you to try these exercises where you "hum", speak and sing into a tube against some water pressure (SOVTE, Lax Vox, Tube-Phonation, doctorVOX, ...).
The exercises with a "Lax Vox" tube (in the end a 35cm long silicon tube, 10mm inside diameter, 2mm wall thickness with some helpful markings) feel totally stupid, but the results are really astonishing for me.
I remember a patient, a lovely gentleman who used to fill my clinic room with laughter and stories. Then, one day, his daughter brought him in. He looked… lost. #aphasia #braininjury #communicationdisorder #languageloss #speechtherapy #stroke

June is Aphasia Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness about aphasia—a communication disorder caused mainly by stroke or brain injury that affects speaking, writing, and understanding language, but not intelligence. Aphasia can range from mild difficulty finding words to severe impairment in forming sentences or understanding speech. Early diagnosis and speech therapy are crucial for recovery and improving communication skills. Recognizing symptoms like trouble speaking or understanding language can save lives by prompting urgent medical care. Support and understanding make a difference for those living with aphasia.
