We adopted two #ferrets from the #SPCA today! Ever since we said goodbye to Onyx, I've been looking for new noodles to keep Amber and Rusty company. There haven't been any rescues available locally for weeks, but these two were surrendered three days ago.

Welcome home, Jet and Marble! (formerly Jenny and Nessie)

Jet's tail is bare so she probably has adrenal disease, we will confirm with our vet and get the implant for her in a week.

Mᵉ Sophie Gaillard, diplômée en droit de l’Université McGill, est une figure de proue du droit animal au Québec et au Canada. Elle travaille à la SPCA de Montréal depuis 2013, où elle occupe les rôles de conseillère juridique principale, porte-parole et responsable des dossiers législatifs en protection animale. Elle a notamment contribué à des changements importants comme l’interdiction du dégriffage des chats, l’autorisation des chiens dans le métro de Montréal et la reconnaissance des animaux comme êtres sensibles dans le Code civil du Québec.

Son engagement pour les animaux remonte à l’enfance : devenue végétarienne à quatre ans après avoir compris d’où venait la viande, elle est devenue végane quelques années plus tard. Militante dès l’adolescence, elle a continué à militer pendant ses études universitaires, sa maîtrise et même au cours de sa première carrière comme orthophoniste en clinique.

Thousands of chickens survive USPS shipment snafu

More than 12,000 chicks at a Delaware distribution center were found left in a USPS truck for more than three days. Trapped in a warm enclosure without food and water, thousands of the young birds died before they were discovered and delivered to a shelter equipped to care for them. The involved parties are still awaiting answers as to how the chicks were abandoned within a Delaware mail distribution center. The United States Postal Service said in an email that it was aware of a process breakdown and was actively investigating. Pennsylvania-based Freedom Ranger Hatchery raised the chicks for distribution to clients across the country but said it cannot take them back due to biosecurity concerns.
