"Severe thunderstorms and torrential rain have again battered coastal Spain, causing thousands of people to be evacuated just two weeks after the country experienced deadly #flooding in Valencia and other nearby communities.

"Over 4,000 people and a thousand homes have been evacuated in the #Malaga area, according to a Thursday update from Antonio Sanz, the director of the Emergency Plan for the Risk of Flooding in #Andalucia.

"Five areas near the Guadalhorce riverbank were preemptively evacuated due to the risk of overflowing.

"In just one hour, nearly a month’s worth of rainfall inundated the city of Malaga, in Spain’s Andalusia region, according to the country’s meteorological agency AEMet. The southern Spanish province picked up roughly 100 millimeters (4 inches) of rain so far on Wednesday, 78 millimeters (3 inches) of which fell within an hour. Malaga normally averages 100.5 millimeters in the month of November.

"The Spanish meteorological agency has issued red warnings in the Andalusia and Catalonia regions for extreme rainfall with reports of impassable roads and flooded basements in several towns.

"Video from the scene shows streets in Malaga submerged in water."

Spain’s flood survivors toss mud and shout insults at King Felipe VI

A crowd of enraged flood survivors pelted the Spanish royal couple with mud and rocks during their first visit to the center of the nation’s deadliest natural disaster in living memory. Officials rushed Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez from the scene soon after his contingent started to walk the mud-covered streets. Over 60 people perished in the town of Paiporta and thousands of lives were shattered. The crowd shouted “Get out! Get out!” and “Killers!” among other insults. Bodyguards opened umbrellas to protect the royals and officials from the barrage of muck. Police had to step in, with some officers on horseback, to keep back several dozen people who hurled mud and wielded shovels and poles threateningly.

Parts of #Spain appear to merge with the sea after historic #rain in before-and-after images

The deadly #flooding that rocked Spain this week following intense, historic #rainfall is so expansive and severe the area looked like an inland sea from space.

CNN - "The deadly flooding that rocked Spain this week following intense, historic rainfall is so expansive and severe the area looked like an inland sea from space.

"A year’s worth of rain fell in just hours in east-central Spain Tuesday, creating a surge of floodwater that broke the banks of rivers, turned streets into raging rapids and washed away cars and bridges.

"At least 155 people were killed in the #CatastrophicFloods — the type of extreme rainfall event becoming all too frequent as the world warms due to #FossilFuelPollution.

"Parts of the area now look like an extension of the #BalearicSea after unprecedented rainfall turned what should be dry ground into a vast expanse of water, satellite imagery captured on October 30 shows.

"#Floodwaters appear as various shades of blue and cover what was dry ground (browns and greens) earlier this month, the imagery shows. The dramatic, widespread coverage of floodwater over inland areas has almost turned coastal areas into islands.

"Waterways that were hardly noticeable in the 'before' satellite image from earlier in the month — like the one that cuts just south of Valencia’s city center — are now highlighted in bright blue, indicating how swollen they are."
